Bubble Report: March 11, 2026 (pre-games analysis)

Before the games of March 11, here is our bubble status.

Santa Clara is in for now, but they might be right on the bubble depending on what other teams do. Missouri doesn't play until tomorrow in the SEC yet but they can survive a loss to Kentucky it seems (the Conf Tourney projections assume a Kentucky win over LSU; Missouri might not grade out so well if they lose to LSU!)

The ACC has four bubble teams. SMU seems to have solidified their bid by beating Syracuse; they show a 10-seed win or lose to Louisville today and beating the Cards and Miami launches them to a 7. NC State looks in the clear too for now, though a bad loss to Pitt might change things. Stanford remarkably survived their loss to Pitt by remaining in the seedings, though they dropped below 50% and are truly dependent on the bubble working out to their favor. And California plays today against FSU; a loss makes them a 50/50 team or lower, while a win keeps them a play-in team. Beating FSU and then Duke finally takes them off the play-in line, but only to an 11-seed assuming they lose after that.

Texas faces Ole Miss today in the SEC tournament and win or lose their odds of a bid aren't the best. With two wins (beating Georgia) they start to look better (45%) but they really need to beat Alabama to secure their spot it looks like. Just under the current waterline, VCU doesn't start until Friday and an opening loss pretty well sinks the Rams, and they might need to win the tournament as even 2 wins and a loss doesn't prop them up much. Cincinnati improved their odds greatly by beating Utah but a loss to UCF today keeps them below the line.

Farther down the bubble (below) we have the Mountain West teams, New Mexico, San Diego State, and Boise State. The former two don't play yet while Boise has an elimination game against San Jose State, but even beating New Mexico and losing to SDSU only leaves the Broncos with a paltry 5% chance.

Indiana plays Northwestern and a loss knocks them out. A win and loss doesn't leave them much hope but beating Purdue earns a play-in spot. Likewise West Virginia needs two wins in the Big Twelve tournament to get over the hump; the Mountaineers face BYU today and Houston if they win that.

Miami Ohio doesn't rate well by the Dance Chance and might need to win the MAC; the Redhawks start tomorrow against UMass. South Florida needs to win the American as well.

Seton Hall starts play on Thursday and needs two wins. Virginia Tech lost to Wake Forest but still has a small prayer. Not much of one given how many ACC teams are on the bubble.

Oklahoma State appears on the bubble after beating Colorado. That win didn't do too much for them, and beating TCU won't likely get them in either, but beating Kansas would put them in the conversation at least.
