Does ANYONE want the last 1-seed?
What is going on with the last 1-seed? We all know that three 1-seeds are set in stone:

The Dance Chance this morning thought that Houston was in line for a 1-seed if they beat Arizona today. Failing that, Florida would inherit the last 1-seed by winning the SEC tournament with a win over Vanderbilt. And if the Gators fell short, UConn could leap past idle Iowa State with a win and probably move past the two "losers" to narrowly nab the last 1-seed.
But that's not how the rest of the world saw things. Here's the corresponding ranking in the Bracket Matrix:
The consensus story is: Florida beats Vanderbilt to win the SEC and is clearly the 1-seed, no questions asked about Houston or any other team. If they fail, then UConn gets the 1-seed by winning the Big East. Only then, if both fail, then maybe Houston has a shot with an upset of Arizona.
Both of these scenarios have gone chaotic, as Florida fell to Vanderbilt 91-74, UConn lost to St. John's 72-52, and Houston failed to get the upset against Arizona, 79-74.
These results are particularly devestating for Bracketologists because Florida and UConn were both blown out. You don't give a team a 1-seed after a blowout when they're just on the edge.
Going down the line on the Bracket Matrix, next up is Michigan State. Really? They lost to UCLA, no go. Iowa State follows, but if you don't give it to Houston you don't give it to Iowa State.
In the Dance Chance, Gonzaga is the next conference winner in line. But no one is pushing for a 1-seed for the 'Zags; even the Dance Chance only has them at 1.2%. Maybe this is the 1.2% chance? If you look at the "Conf Tourney" numbers, losses by all three put Houston and Florida at 2 and UConn at a 3. There's no one else to take the 1-seed in that projection, where everything is chalk other than the team in question. It doesn't try out various combinations, so this is uncharted territory.
Most likely Houston will stay the 1-seed in the Dance Chance, all other things being even there's no reason for another team to pass them.
Likewise I suppose the Bracket Matrix consensus will stay with Florida. Why would another team move up?
The real question is what will the Selection Committee do? They aren't looking at things game by game and week by week like bracketologists do, so they'll look at the entirety of the season and make a choice. I could see them going with Houston, Florida, or UConn. In this case, UConn might have an edge over Florida due to their head-to-head win early in the season.
For once, there might be some drama concerning the 1-seeds this Sunday!!
