Alex Povetkin's 11th round TKO of former #3 Chris Byrd was naturally the big factor in this month's updated rankings (click for full list).
Povetkin soared from #38 to well inside the top ten at #7, while Byrd fell out of the top ten for the first time in several years. Wlad Klitscko and Ruslan Chagaev were unchanged at the top two positions.

Other fights with a major impact were Sultan Ibragimov's win over Evander Holyfield which put him in the top ten and Samuel Peter's decision over Jameel McCline, enabling him to pass the long-retired Lennox Lewis. Nicolay Valuev moved to #3, filling the void left by Byrd's fall. Oleg Maskaev moved up a spot to #6, while Vitali Klitschko and David Tua were nudged down a spot each to accommodate the newcomers that leapt over them.
Juan C. Gomez jumped into the top 20 after beating former #18 Oliver McCall. John Ruiz moved up a few spots after his win over Otis Tisdale, while Joe Mesi treaded water with his 1st round KO of Shannon Miller.
Eddie Chambers drops a few spots to #17. With Calvin Brock at #27, Friday night's bout, the second part of the IBF eliminator, will be another with rankings repercussions. The winner will fight Povetkin at a later date.
Brand new to the rankings is Mark Brown (overall 10-1), who jumps in at #46 after beating ex-#51 Dave Brunelli. Yaroslav Zavorotny (9-2) debuts at #94 after beating Don Diego Poeder, who has now lost four bouts in a row since fighting as a heavyweight.
Rejoining the top 100 are #50 Kali Meehan (33-3), who beat DaVarryl Williams, and #51 Demetrice King (14-15), who has a five-bout winning streak and defeated #42 Raymond "Bola" Olubuwale. Both were well outside the top 100 prior to this month. Mike Mollo also makes a big move, from #59 to #37, with his win over Art Binkowski.
Another familiar, if controversial, face near the top 50 is Andrew Golota, who jumps almost 40 spots after beating Kevin McBride. An even more familiar and controversial face falls out of the top 100 for the first time since the 80s: Mike Tyson is now no longer in the Top 100.
