Oklahoma freshman Samaje Perine rushed for 427 yards against Kansas today, breaking Melvin Gordon's one-week-old FBS rushing record. Perine had 34 carries and 5 touchdowns. Gordon needed just 25 carries against Nebraska last week.
Gaining 400 yards against Kansas is quite a different thing from doing so against Nebraska, but if Gordon hadn't broken the record last week no one would question whether Perine's accomplishment was worthy of the record. Ladainian Tomlinson's 406 yards came against UTEP, not exactly a powerhouse.
As it is, there will be inevitable comparisons. Gordon's feat is probably more impressive, but that's like comparing an A to an A+. Or rather, and A+ to an A++. But the real question is: Who will break the record next week?
