Due to technical difficulties we aren't updating as much as we'd like, so now in the middle of week 2 we present both our pre-season and Week 1 Heisman Trophy list.
Pre-season
We start the year with the five top vote-getters from last season, in order:
- Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M
- Marqise Lee, WR USC
- Braxton Miller, QB Ohio State
- Jadeveon Clowney, DE South Carolina
- Jordan Lynch, QB Northern Illinois
Each week we will add another player until there are 15 candidates, at which point we'll subtract a couple per week, shuffling the order as we see fit.
Week One
Week one was not a great week for the starting top five. Johnny Manziel played only half a game vs. Rice and threw for just 94 yards, not exactly Heisman numbers. But 3 of his 6 completions were touchdown passes, and who has ever had that kind of ratio? So he stays on top. Marqise Lee had 104 receiving yards against Hawaii which is decent if not extravagant, but he had no TDs and fumbled away a punt return. Braxton Miller was okay against Buffalo, rushing for 77 yards but throwing for under 200 yards with one interception. Jadeveon Clowney was a bust stats-wise vs. UNC and that's trouble for his candidacy. Jordan Lynch might have had the best outing on the initial list, with 275 passing yards, 56 rushing, and 3 touchdowns in winning a close game at Iowa; he moves ahead of Clowney.

There were several excellent candidates to join the list, starting with Christion Jones of Alabama who returned a punt and a kickoff for TDs and caught a TD pass as well; Teddy Bridgewater of Louisville had a great start to the season with 5 touchdown passes; and Jameis Winston of FSU had 5 total TDs on 25 of 27 passing. But none of those were huge games whereas Tajh Boyd of Clemson had 3 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs in a narrow win over Georgia, so he gets the nod, jumping in and sliding up to #4.
