The SportsRatings Weekly Top 25 is a subjective ranking of the top 25 college football teams in the style of the AP or USA/Coaches poll. Our rankings properly reflect head-to-head results and give additional consideration to teams who have victories over other top 25 teams.
It was supposed to be a weekend of blowouts and for the top teams it was, just like last week, but for the lower-rung of undefeated teams nothing was easy.
#1 Alabama crushed Mississippi 52-7 while #2 Stanford and #3 Oklahoma overcame slow starts to beat Washington State 44-14 and Kansas 47-17 respectively. #4 Boise State battered Colorado State 63-13, #5 LSU dominated Tennessee 38-7, and #6 Wisconsin dispatched Indiana 59-7.
Three other undefeated teams had a tougher go of it. #7 Oklahoma State beat Texas, 38-26, in a game that was tight through the third quarter where the teams traded back-to-back 100 yard kickoff returns. #8 Clemson was down 35-17 to Maryland in the 2nd half before storming back to win 56-45. And Kansas State won a back-and-forth battle over Texas Tech, 41-34. The Wildcats move up to #11.
#9 Oregon fended off Arizona State 41-27, and idle Arkansas moved up to #10.

Virginia Tech, Nebraska, Washington, USC, and South Carolina each move up four spots. The Hokies beat upstart Wake Forest 38-17. Nebraska was idle but holds a win over Washington, who trounced Colorado 52-24. USC beat Cal convincingly on Thursday, 30-9, and South Carolina edged Mississippi State 14-12.
Most of this upward movement was due to losses by three previously undefeated teams. #17 Illinois had their first loss of the year at home against Ohio State, 17-7; Michigan fell at Michigan State 28-14 and fell to #19, and the Spartans jump in one spot ahead of the Wolverines. Georgia Tech was defeated by Virginia 24-21.
Houston was idle and remains unbeaten, moving up to #21. Penn State slides up to #22 after another close win, this time over Purdue, 18-13. Arizona State drops from #14 to #23 with their 2nd loss; #24 Auburn (beat Florida 17-6) also has two losses and, like ASU, a win over a top 25 team. Texas A&M re-enters the rankings at #25 after beating Baylor, 55-28. North Carolina also falls out after their loss to Miami.
