On the same day that the NCAA made a great decision for basketball, they've just allowed two more bowl games to be added to the bowl season, creating a glut that could see teams with 5-7 records eligible.
With 35 bowl games, 70 of 120 teams would be needed to fill the bowls. Already that's a mistake; there should be no more than 30 bowl games, so that the teams selected could reasonably claim to be a "better than average" team.
Currently, teams must be 6-6 or better, with only one of those wins coming against an FBS (I-AA) team. With 35 bowl games on the slate, it's possible that the criteria will have to be loosened.
The better solution is to scale back on the bowl games, not allow continued expansion.
