It's roughly the mid-point of the season. Most teams have played six games out of their twelve-game schedule. How have they fared?
SportsRatings has graded each team and issued a report card for all 120 teams. The two basic factors considered are: How has the team done so far? And, how has the team done, considering who they are? In other words, teams are graded by absolute and relative performance.
For absolute performance, a team's success at winning games and their offensive and defensive production are considered. For relative performance, teams are graded on how they've improved from last year, and how much they've exceeded pre-season expectations.
The following KEY explains the grades in the report card:
PERF grade: Raw performance in wins and losses (25% of Final Grade). Uses the Success Power Rating which rewards good wins and penalizes bad losses.
PERF off/def: Grades offensive and defensive performance (total of 25% of final grade). Offense and defense are graded according to scoring and yardage production, each corrected for opposition. See scoring and yardage statistics in sidebar.
vs. 2007: How much the team has improved (or not) from last season. 25% of Final Grade.
vs. EXP: A measure of how much the team has met, exceeded, or fallen short of pre-season expectations (25% of Final Grade). Calculated by comparisons with SportsRatings' pre-season outlook.
Final Grade: A merging of all four of the above.
Comments: Some additional thoughts about the student's work, a necessary part of any report card.
