Here are the 'other' bowl games, being played from December 20 all the way through January 6th.
Among them we have bowls named for their city: the New Orleans Bowl in New Orleans, and the Las Vegas Bowl in Las Vegas; bowls named for their state: the New Mexico Bowl in Albuquerque, the Hawaii Bowl in Honolulu, and the Texas Bowl in Houston; and bowls named for their city's nickname: the Motor City Bowl in Detriot, and the Music City Bowl in Nashville.
The main BCS bowls are covered in my BCS bowls post.
Date Bowl Location Matchup
Dec 20 Poinsettia San Diego Utah (8-4) vs. Navy (8-4)
Not a bad bowl for the earliest of the year. B+
Dec 21 New Orleans New Orleans Florida Atlantic (7-5) vs. Memphis (7-5)
FAU beat Troy to wrestle this bowl game from them. C
Dec 22 Papajohns.com Birmingham Cincinnati (9-3) vs. S. Mississippi (7-5)
A disappointing bowl for the Bearcats, and an uninspiring matchup for fans. C-
Dec 22 New Mexico Albuquerque New Mexico (8-4) vs. Nevada (6-6)
A good regional matchup, but no national interest. Nevada has five Division I-A wins. D+
Dec 22 Las Vegas Las Vegas Brigham Young (10-2) vs. UCLA (6-6)
Possibly the stupidest bowl pairing of this century. BYU has 10 wins and is in the top 25; they deserve better than this. The Cougars lost the first game 27-17; aren't you dying to see if they can avenge themselves? F
Dec 23 Hawaii Honolulu East Carolina (7-5) vs. Boise State (10-2)
Again, pointless. Boise State deserves a better competitor to prove their top 25 ranking. At least it's not a rematch. D
Dec 26 Motor City Detroit Central Michigan (8-5) vs. Purdue (7-5)
Speaking of rematches. Why the hell do they do this? F
Dec 27 Holiday San Diego Arizona State (10-2) vs. Texas (9-3)
In the middle of bowl-game quagmire is possibly the best matchup in December. Arizona State should have played Florida on January 1st, leaving Michigan here, but the Capital One's loss is Holiday's gain. Conference bindings ruin great bowl possibilities, but sometimes the alternatives are interesting. A
Dec 28 Champs Sports Orlando Boston College (10-3) vs. Mich. St (7-5)
A sad ending for Boston College's national title hopes. They deserve far better than playing the Spartans, who wilted this year a little bit less than they did last season. C-
Dec 28 Texas Houston TCU (7-5) vs. Houston (8-4)
Looking at the location and the teams, it's easy to see where the idea for this matchup came from, not that anyone else has to be all that excited about it. C
Dec 28 Emerald San Fran Oregon State (8-4) vs. Maryland (6-6)
Oregon should probably be playing here, not Oregon State, which finished 3rd outright in the Pac-10 and beat the Dixon-less Ducks. D
Dec 29 Meineke Charlotte Wake Forest (8-4) vs. Connecticut (9-3)
Not too bad of a game, but doesn't it seem the Big East teams got screwed on bowls? B+
Dec 29 Liberty Memphis C. Florida (10-3) vs. Miss. State (7-5)
UCF deserves a shot at the top 25, but I'm not sure a win here would do it for them. B-
Dec 29 Alamo San Antonio Texas A&M (7-5) vs. Penn State (8-4)
A decent but uninspiring Big 12 / Big 10 clash. Bowl games with essentially a home field advantage kind of defeats some of the purpose... C+
Dec 30 Independence Shreveport Alabama (6-6) vs. Colorado (6-6)
This is about the best matchup of 6-6 teams they could have made. That said, it's a matchup between 6-6 teams. C
Dec 31 Armed Forces Fort Worth California (6-6) vs. Air Force (9-3)
California backs into a bowl...but with healing time, they might be a formidable foe. B-
Dec 31 Sun El Paso Oregon (8-4) vs. South Florida (9-3)
Screwed, screwed, the Big East got screwed. Does anyone care about Oregon post-Dixon? They were shut out by UCLA and lost 3 straight, yet they still get a bowl the day before New Year's, ahead of rival Oregon State, who beat them and finished in front of them in the Pac-10, and against a quality South Florida team that deserved a better chance to prove itself. The Ducks' fans must travel well. D+
Dec 31 Humanitarian Boise Fresno State (8-4) vs. Georgia Tech (7-5)
For the love of Humanity, can this be the last time this wretched bowl is played? C-
Dec 31 Music City Nashville Kentucky (7-5) vs. Florida State (7-5)
The Consolation Bowl. Two teams with higher aspirations (FSU in general, UK this season in particular) that didn't pan out. C-
Dec 31 Chick-Fil-A Atlanta Auburn (8-4) vs. Clemson (9-3)
Basically a battle to stay in the top 25, but not a bad matchup. A-
Dec 31 Insight Tempe Oklahoma State (6-6) vs. Indiana (7-5)
A bowl this close to 2008 should have better than a 6-6 team vs. a 7-5 team. D
Jan 1 Outback Tampa Wisconsin (9-3) vs. Tennessee (9-4)
A decent but not fantastic New Year's Day bowl. Why does it seem like Wisconsin faces Tennessee in a bowl every year, even though they haven't played since 1981? B
Jan 1 Cotton Dallas Arkansas (8-4) vs. Missouri (11-2)
A bad break for Missouri, which could/should have been in the BCS ahead of Kansas. Now if disappointment sets in, the Razorbacks will run all over them. An interesting game, though, with McFadden vs. Daniel, running vs. passing, SEC vs. Big 12. A
Jan 1 Gator Jacksonville Virginia (9-3) vs. Texas Tech (8-4)
The sad truth is, outside of the BCS bowls, there just aren't enough good teams to go around, so we get this as a marquee New Year's Day matchup. B-
Jan 1 Capital One Orlando Michigan (8-4) vs. Florida (9-3)
People will watch because of the teams involved, but is anyone really aching to see if Michigan can stop Tim Tebow? Illinois/Florida would have been great, and frankly I'd rather have seen Michigan against USC, but Illinois beat OSU and the Wolverines didn't. B+
Jan 5 International Toronto Rutgers (7-5) vs. Ball State (7-5)
A lame bowl matchup that is made even more pathetic by putting it well into January. F
Jan 6 GMAC Mobile Tulsa (9-4) vs. Bowling Green (8-4)
These last two bowls must be killed off, there's no two ways about it. F
