The SEC just keeps delivering big games and big upsets. Last night Florida and Alabama—both projected 1-seeds in the Dance Chance—were upset at home, by Missouri and Mississippi respectively. Missouri and Ole Miss were seen as middling SEC teams despite their 14-2 and 13-3 records before the games. They ranked as borderline top 25 teams in most power ratings and in the SEC, that's a middling team.
But Missouri beat Alabama 74-64 and Ole Miss won 83-82. If those had occurred at home it would be one thing, but a road win over either of these teams is a major accomplishment. It's getting harder and harder to see just how the SEC season is going to play out.
One thing remained constant: Auburn's domination. They beat a tough Mississippi State team (another "middling" SEC team) by 22 points without Johni Broome playing. That was at home, so we'll see how they do on the road without him but so far they haven't missed a step.
Kentucky also beat Texas A&M at home, an expected result with a more comfortable (81-69) margin than expected.
The losses by Florida and Alabama reduce the SEC's odds of managing to get three 1-seeds, but increase the "packing" of SEC teams in the higher seed as Missouri and Ole Miss will be re-evaluated upwards with these big wins under their belts.
