Kansas reigns again at the top as the top teams in other conferences—the Big East in particular—knock each other off. After beating Texas last week Jayhawks are now 24-1, as is #3 Kentucky who picked up a win over Tennessee. 22-2 Villanova moved up to #2 with a win over West Virginia; this was before their late Monday loss to UConn, of course, which underscores how brutal the league is. Just last week Syracuse fell to #5 from #2 after being upset by Louisville, and former #6 West Virginia lost in three overtimes to Pitt; added to their other loss it dropped the Mountaineers to #12.
Don't look now but Kansas State is 20-4 and a serious contended for a 2-seed. Also moving up are Mountain West powers New Mexico and BYU, both 23-3; the Lobos beat UNLV last week and the Cougars crushed Air Force by the ungodly score of 91-48. Between them at #8 is 21-4 Duke.
At #10 and #11 are Georgetown and Gonzaga. The Hoyas have six losses but five wins over ranked teams. They showed their up-and-down nature last week by being another Big East upset victim at Rutgers on Sunday. The Zags beat their top WCC rival, St. Mary's, for the second time this year.

Temple leaps back up to #13 after completing a sweep of former #13 Rhode Island. Vanderbilt and Baylor—both of whom fell out last week—are back in a big way. Texas' fifth loss sends them tumbling below the Bears, who have a similar record and beat Texas in Austin. Vanderbilt earned their spot by beating Tennessee, the second time they've bested the Volunteers.
Virginia Tech and Murray State—teams with few losses but no big wins—follow at #19 and #20. Butler enters at #19 with a 23-4 record and a win over Ohio State, who debuts at #22. The Buckeyes join Big Ten rivals Wisconsin and Michigan State, both of whom fall due to home losses: the Spartans to Purdue, the Badgers to Illinois.
Northern Iowa suffered their third loss, one to lowly Bradley, and have no offsetting strong wins. Adding to their woes, center Jordan Egleseder was suspended for three games after getting a DUI following their loss to Bradley. The Panthers might not be long for the top 25.
Pittsburgh and Tennessee round out the top 25. The Panthers outlasted West Virginia for a big win in three overtimes, while Tennessee lost twice last week.
Out this week
Rhode Island, UNLV, and St. Mary's both lost twice last week. Charlotte lost to Dayton while Cornell inexplicably lost to 4-16 Penn by 15 points.
On the bright side for those squads, three of the teams that fell out last week are already back in.
