- Sam Houston St. (Southland #2) Last year: 18-12 (#155) TPP Back: 70.0% Recruiting: #166
Key returnee: Ashton Mitchell (#1 12.6 TPP/G)
Key loss: Barkley Falkner (#3 10.5 TPP/G)
Analysis: The Bearkats return their top four scorers, all of whom averaged 9 points or more. Their top two rebounders are gone, however, making this year a potential mixed bag where a conference title is still within reach. - Drexel (Colonial #5) Last year: 15-14 (#172) TPP Back: 72.4% Recruiting: #189
Key returnee: Leon Spencer (#1 7.5 TPP/G)
Key loss: Scott Rodgers (#2 7.5 TPP/G)
Analysis: Drexel has four starters back from a team that was a bit better than the usual borderline-.500 squad. Their FG% should actually improve via losing Rodgers (34%) and Tramayne Hawthorne (30%). - Rider (Metro Atl #4) Last year: 19-13 (#166) TPP Back: 79.6% Recruiting: #274
Key returnee: Ryan Thompson (#1 17.9 TPP/G)
Key loss: Harris Mansell (#4 8.3 TPP/G)
Analysis: Thompson, a 6-6 guard who scored 18 points per game, was team #2 in rebounding and can play point, is one of the brightest stars in the MAAC. He returns with three other starters to lead an improved squad. - Fairfield (Metro Atl #5) Last year: 17-15 (#167) TPP Back: 77.6% Recruiting: #244
Key returnee: Greg Nero (#1 11.8 TPP/G)
Key loss: Jonathan Han (#4 9.7 TPP/G)
Analysis: Han averaged 12.5 ppg to lead the team (Nero #2 at 12.4) but was suspended during last season. They're used to playing without him now and get Anthony Johnson ( 9.2ppg, 7.4 reb) back full time. - Houston (C-USA #5) Last year: 21-12 (#105) TPP Back: 56.2% Recruiting: #200
Key returnee: Aubrey Coleman (#1 16.5 TPP/G)
Key loss: Marcus Cousin (#2 14.2 TPP/G)
Analysis: The Cougars have three starters back but Cousins and Qa'rraan Calhoun accounted for 21 points and 10 rebounds per game. Coleman and Kelvin Lewis each scored nearly 20 per game apiece but they'll miss the big men. - Gonzaga (WCC #3) Last year: 28-6 (#32) TPP Back: 35.4% Recruiting: #68
Key returnee: Matt Bouldin (#2 13.8 TPP/G)
Key loss: Josh Heytvelt (#1 13.9 TPP/G)
Analysis: The Zags lose starters Heytvelt, Austin Daye, Jeremy Pargo, and Micah Downs, all of whom scored 9.5 ppg or more. Bouldin will need help from reserves Steven Gray and 7-5 Will Foster, along with some solid recruits. - Missouri St. (MVC #5) Last year: 11-20 (#189) TPP Back: 57.4% Recruiting: #170
Key returnee: Kyle Weems (#1 7.9 TPP/G)
Key loss: Chris Cooks (#2 8.7 TPP/G)
Analysis: Weems and two other starters return but some top reserves are gone. The difference could be East Kentucky transfer Adam Leonard, who averaged 11.9 points per game and is a 3-point threat. - Western Carolina (Southern #2) Last year: 16-15 (#187) TPP Back: 91.6% Recruiting: #337
Key returnee: Harouna Mutombo (#1 11.2 TPP/G)
Key loss: Gerg Avery (#6 3.8 TPP/G)
Analysis: With almost the whole team back (92% of total production), WCU should be better and again among the best in the Southern Conference. - Texas Christian (Mtn West #5) Last year: 14-17 (#133) TPP Back: 66.3% Recruiting: #110
Key returnee: Zvonko Buljan (#1 11.9 TPP/G)
Key loss: Kevin Langford (#2 9.0 TPP/G)
Analysis: A mixed outlook, with three starters back but leading scorer (13.9 ppg) Langford departing, and decent but not game-breaking recruits coming in. TCU will tread water, ceding the big news to the football team. - Princeton (Ivy #2) Last year: 13-14 (#289) TPP Back: 94.1% Recruiting: #92
Key returnee: Pawel Buczak (#1 7.0 TPP/G)
Key loss: Jason Briggs (#8 1.7 TPP/G)
Analysis: Last year's dismal team gets a big upgrade, with the top seven players back and a great recruit in power forward Ian Hummer (6-6 190). They won't catch Cornell, but should do very well in the Ivy League. - Southern Methodist (C-USA #6) Last year: 9-21 (#274) TPP Back: 75.2% Recruiting: #275
Key returnee: Paul McCoy (#2 10.2 TPP/G)
Key loss: Bamba Fall (#1 10.9 TPP/G)
Analysis: SMU was better than their 9-24 record showed, but that doesn't say much. They lose 7-footer Fall but have their next 7 best back, and add Mouhammad Faye from Georgia Tech and could be nearer the middle of the C-USA. - Youngstown St. (Horizon #4) Last year: 11-19 (#210) TPP Back: 85.6% Recruiting: #322
Key returnee: Sirlester Martin (#1 9.5 TPP/G)
Key loss: Jack Liles (#3 6.8 TPP/G)
Analysis: Liles is the only noteworthy loss on the team, as every other starter or decent reserve is back. The Penguins return their top four scorers and could be a surprise in the Horizon. - Radford (Big South #1) Last year: 21-12 (#140) TPP Back: 63.7% Recruiting: #164
Key returnee: Art Parakhouski (#1 18.9 TPP/G)
Key loss: Kenny Thomas (#3 10.4 TPP/G)
Analysis: Radford has four starters back, but the departing Eric Hall, Chris McEachin, and Martell McDuffy were all more productive than Phillip Martin, so the team doesn't improve. Still, the Highlanders should repeat as Big South champs. - Utah (Mtn West #6) Last year: 24-10 (#53) TPP Back: 30.1% Recruiting: #47
Key returnee: Carlon Brown (#3 9.4 TPP/G)
Key loss: Luke Nevill (#1 19.8 TPP/G)
Analysis: Huge losses here; 7-2 Nevill, Shaun Green, and Lawrence Borha combined for 39 points and 17 rebounds per game. Good recruiting will help but most won't break through until next season. - LA Lafayette (Sun Belt #4) Last year: 10-20 (#257) TPP Back: 95.4% Recruiting: #247
Key returnee: Travis Bureau (#1 8.9 TPP/G)
Key loss: Emmanuel Adeife (#9 2.7 TPP/G)
Analysis: Try, try again. Last year the Cajuns had a lot of players back but actually backslid partly due to injuries. Now they return almost everyone returning so there are no excuses. - Iowa (Big Ten #11) Last year: 15-17 (#75) TPP Back: 43.2% Recruiting: #62
Key returnee: Matt Gatens (#1 8.8 TPP/G)
Key loss: Jake Kelly (#2 8.4 TPP/G)
Analysis: The Hawks were dismal in the 2nd half of the year, then four players transferred including budding star Kelly and starter Jeff Peterson. The recruiting class isn't strong enough to adequately restock the depleted roster. - Central Florida (C-USA #7) Last year: 17-14 (#142) TPP Back: 39.7% Recruiting: #44
Key returnee: A.J. Tyler (#4 6.7 TPP/G)
Key loss: Jermaine Taylor (#1 19.5 TPP/G)
Analysis: The team loses Taylor, far and away their best player (26.2 ppg), and two other key players in Tony Davis and Kendrick Zondervan. But strong recruits come in, among them Keith Clanton and Marcus Jordan, Michael's son. - Bradley (MVC #6) Last year: 21-15 (#121) TPP Back: 65.7% Recruiting: #126
Key returnee: Sam Maniscalco (#2 8.3 TPP/G)
Key loss: Theron Wilson (#1 13.3 TPP/G)
Analysis: The Braves return three starters and an average amount of talent, without bringing in any clearly game-changing recruits. If they can compensate for losing Wilson's scoring and rebounding, they could exceed expectations. - San Jose St. (WAC #8) Last year: 13-17 (#209) TPP Back: 75.8% Recruiting: #171
Key returnee: Chris Oakes (#1 11.1 TPP/G)
Key loss: Tim Pierce (#4 8/0 TPP/G)
Analysis: With Oakes and C.J. Webster back and leading scorer Adrian Oliver returning full time, the Spartans should notch a winning season, but other WAC teams have improved more.
- Tulane (C-USA #8) Last year: 14-17 (#179) TPP Back: 68.7% Recruiting: #90
Key returnee: Kevin Sims (#2 9.7 TPP/G)
Key loss: Robinson Louisme (#1 10.3 TPP/G)
Analysis: Enough talent returns that, along with a decent recruiting group, the Green Wave should perform at least as well as they did last season. - Morehead St. (Ohio Val #2) Last year: 20-16 (#205) TPP Back: 72.0% Recruiting: #263
Key returnee: Kenneth Faried (#1 20.5 TPP/G)
Key loss: Leon Buchanan (#2 13.1 TPP/G)
Analysis: With Faried, who averaged a double-double, back and three of the top four scorers, the Eagles could improve on last year's performance, where they won the OVC tournament and went to the NCAA. - James Madison (Colonial #6) Last year: 21-15 (#144) TPP Back: 68.5% Recruiting: #293
Key returnee: Pierre Curtis (#1 10.4 TPP/G)
Key loss: Kyle Swanston (#2 8.3 TPP/G)
Analysis: James Madison has three starters back an a respectable amount of returning overall talent, but doesn't bring in any game-changing recruits to suggest the team will improve this year. - William & Mary (Colonial #7) Last year: 10-20 (#263) TPP Back: 78.8% Recruiting: #199
Key returnee: Quinn McDowell (#1 9.1 TPP/G)
Key loss: Peter Stein (#4 4.2 TPP/G)
Analysis: The Tribe return their top three scorers (David Schneider, Danny Sumner, and McDowell) and four starters overall, and get an additional boost from transfer JohnMark Ludwick from UTSA. - Long Beach State (Big West #2) Last year: 15-15 (#173) TPP Back: 70.3% Recruiting: #129
Key returnee: T.J. Robinson (#1 10.2 TPP/G)
Key loss: Donovan Morris (#3 10.1 TPP/G)
Analysis: Long Beach State had three top players last year and two (Robinson and Larry Anderson) are back among four starters. With solid recruit Jules Montgomery (F 6-10 195) coming in, the team will be stronger overall. - Weber State (Big Sky #1) Last year: 21-10 (#110) TPP Back: 63.4% Recruiting: #255
Key returnee: Damian Lillard (#2 9.3 TPP/G)
Key loss: Kellen McCoy (#1 11.1 TPP/G)
Analysis: Weber State has three starters back but losing McCoy and Davlin Davis takes a big bite out of production. Still, even this weakened team should garner the top spot in the Big Sky, where they were 15-1 last year.
